Hey Virginia. I see you described as a male in your profile. I thought y'all was a girl you know..?..puzzled đŸ€” đŸ€ŁÂ

Well, that's interesting. I'm all woman. I had to go back and look at the profile. I've been here for over ten years and never knew that's what it was.

  2. Hey y'all! It's been a busy couple of weeks. I reactivated my real estate license and have been taking classes to update my skills in that AND for my mobile notary business (specializing in closings). My brain has been cursing me out.Â đŸ€Ł

This past week I've spent traveling to visit family who live on the West Coast but were near enough for me to drive out (they had a family reunion at Myrtle Beach, SC) for an impromptu visit. We also had a funeral to attend and then we had church (same location as the funeral but one was on Tuesday and the other yesterday). I feel tired but not in a bad way. I sometimes have periods of inactivity, and then BOOM! I'm all over the place!

I'm thinking it's all go from now until the New Year. What have you been up to?

  3. With the world (people) being what they are, I've found myself being more inclined to interact from the comfort of my laptop. Unfortunately, people being what they are, I am finding that Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram aren't the friendliest spaces to be in. So I'm trying to find that space where it just feels right.

What I've found is that I miss blogs. Sadly, the blogs that I used to frequent are no longer active and I find myself revisiting old blogs, wondering where these people are, did they make it thru the pandemic, are they still passionate about the things that drew me to their blogs in the first place. I know we can't go back but I sure wish I could recapture those good vibes from great blogs!

Wet and windy here, and in the low to mid teens.  Hope the ankle gets better soon.

    Thanks, it's still the same.

I'm not ready for temps in the teens!😬

After enjoying unseasonably warm temps for the past three/four days, it is now FALL.  It's in the low 60s today, grey and breezy with a slight chance for rain. I plan to stay put.

  5. So, here it is, almost the 1st of November and it's 86 degrees here in the southern parts of the US. TOMORROW, on the other hand, will be in the low 60s with a 40% chance of rain. It'll be the perfect day to cuddle up with a good book. My ankle is swollen so I won't be able to walk my boy on this gorgeous day so I'll sit on my patio or front porch to soak it all in.

  6. It's a gorgeous day, it's going to be in the 80s and sunny. Nothing planned as we've been out and about yesterday. I think I'll go thru my planner (app and physical) and update it. I also need to do my online Notary continuing education class and go thru my real estate notes as I plan to reactivate my license in the new year. So basically, whatever needs to be done admin wise, that's probably what I'll be doing.

Bought my first Xmas dec today, a robin in Marks and Spencer - last year I left it too long and they ran out, so I wasn't leaving it to chance this year!

Yup, it's full steam ahead! I'm going to order my gifts this week and just be done. I'm having surgery on Dec 18 so I will not be doing anything that I don't HAVE to do.

  8. I belong to the Facebook group "A View From Your Window" and I love seeing snippets of where other folks live. I decided to start a thread on our forum. Please post a picture of someplace near where you live, a favorite spot you like to visit, a pub/restaurant, a park, and backyard/garden, wherever it means something to you.

    I'll start!

This is a small lake at the back of our home, taken from our dock. I love watching the seasons change from here.

I hope you’re still enjoying this Virginia! My copy arrived since my last post and I realised it’s longer than I thought it was!

I am enjoying it, wish I could sit, UNBOTHERED,, for longer than a few minutes to get lost in it. I love a good 600 page book!

  10. Anybody experiencing a cold spell yet? Has the cold set in yet? Our leaves are changing, FINALLY. It's getting cold at night and now I can pretend (at least in the evenings) that it's almost full-time sweater/boots weather!

I'm concerned about this winter. Climate change has turned everything topsy-turvy and I feel it might be harsher here in the southern US.

  11. I am TIRED!! My grandchildren's homeschool coop went on a 3-mile nature hike today. I took 5 of the grands and my four-legged boy and we had a great time, but I am now achy and tired. I think the ache has to do with the promise of rain. I really REALLY feel the rain before it gets here. After dropping off three kids at their home, I brought two back home with me. We got back just in time for the cable guy to show up. In between dropping the kids off and getting home, I had to drop some items off at the post office. I'm so glad I did this today because I'm tired and plan to be home tomorrow.

Wow, that's a real labour of love but lovely when it's finished. Do you do it all in one sitting? ... I can imagine most kids getting fed up with staying still for any length of time. I used to hate standing still while my Mum measured the hem length on dresses she was making for me 😂

The original install took almost a week for the oldest girl because she has a ton of hair and it was my first attempt. The retie is the tightening from the root. It takes a few hours and what I do is retwist what needs to be retwisted, and the tie (think making a cross, you go up and down, then east to west til it's tight). The girls can be fidgety but we manage to get thru it because this is easier than me having to do their hair daily. I can wash, condition, and styling.

I just bought this, so hoping you’re not about to tell us it’s awful 😅.

I felt like this about one I DNF’d years ago but I don’t think Fairy Tale is particularly long. King said in an interview that he wanted to do something different with this one so - fingers crossed!

This will actually be my first King book. I've always wanted to read his works but never got around, so I'm trying it now. So far so good.

  14. Have an appointment with my esthetician in a bit. Otherwise, I'm home and relaxing, doing some paperwork, going thru the library events (classes, etc) for the next two months, and working on a homeschool curriculum. Still doing the girls hair but taking my time about it.

  15. Felt a little nostalgic thinking about the forum from days gone by and so I started looking further back and found this gem!

It's been over 13 years (I was Katrinia1968) since we first started this topic. Has anyone found their way to self-sufficiency? I'm still striving and feel more compelled now more than ever.

We've been paying down debt and I've been purchasing kitchen gadgets to make the switch easier. I know but it is what it is! I'm looking at my backyard with a more critical eye for growing veggies and fruit trees. Right now we have pear, fig, peach, lemon, and grapefruit trees planted. I also have raised beds for herbs. One section of my kitchen cabinet is what I call my apothecary cabinet because it's filled with herbs, teas, and medicines.

We're interested in the solar panels but this calls for a huge outlay of funds and no return for years out.

What are you all doing to become more self-sufficient?

  16. I just bought the book over the summer and was waiting for fall to arrive (I'm strange, I only like to read books like this around fall, winter, and Halloween). Looks like a great book to get lost in on cold and blustery days.

Legendary storyteller Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for that world or ours.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.

Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world.

    Magnificent, terrifying, and “spellbinding
packed with glorious flights of imagination and characteristic tenderness about childhood,
Fairy Tale is vintage King at his finest” (Esquire).

“Good, evil, a kingdom to save, monsters to slay—these are the stuff that page-turners are made from.” —Laura Miller,

Not that I'm any good at all in the kitchen but could you make Gazpacho soup during the hot weather. As I understand it you don't have to cook it first and it's best served chilled.

I lost my appetite during the scorching weather last year, so have some idea of what it's like. I lost weight too so no bad thing. I do not like the heat at all so am relishing our current cool and rainy weather but it's about time I had a go at making soup, so I'll see what happens.

I never thought about Gazpacho soup. I had it years ago and was pleasantly surprised. The problem is my husband isn't a fan of tomato based anything. I can cook with small amounts but in general, its a no.

  18. Today is "wait by the phone" day. I'm waiting to pick up my rover and for the HVAC guy to show up and give the unit a winter tune-up. No chores to do but I do hope to get in the kitchen to bake some bread. I also need to wash my granddaughter's hair. That should do it for me for the day.

  19. Has anybody taken out the soup pot yet? I want to make soup so badly but the weather isn't cooperating! I live in the southern part of the US and while most folks will make soup year-round, it's just too bloody hot to do that here. Most days we struggle just to cook/eat hot weather food because our appetites come and go.

My deep freezer and pantry are ready (broth, soup bones, beans, lentils, etc) and the bread machine is in its rightful place. Soon as the temps drop to the low 70s, I'm making soup!! 😆

Re-downloading the book didn't work and it was working on all my other Kindle apps. What's the problem? Then it hit me, I removed all the books that I have read from my Kindle reader and that worked. Yay, me!

    Glad you go that sorted!!

    Random chat,

I'm currently waiting on the body shop to call me and let me know I can pick up my Range Rover. I sent it in for some repairs but there is such uncertainty of when the actual part will come in that I told them to just put it back together and call me when it comes in.

I'm also waiting for the HVAC guy to come and do the winter checkup on our unit to make sure it's winter-ready.

Adulting means waiting and paying. 😉

  21. So, I'm trying to find a really great series to settle down with for the upcoming fall/winter months when I will be more sedentary. The problem is that I'm really particular about what I watch. I want something epic, something with magic, good and evil, something I can cozy up on the sofa in front of the fireplace. Unfortunately, LOTRs series has already been created. 😆

    Any ideas?

Same here, it's unseasonably warm though there is a bit of a chill, the trees haven't started to turn yet, probably because of the late warm weather, but I walked into a wall of Halloween stuff in the supermarket yesterday.

I was sitting on my porch this morning and noticed that our leaves are changing. It's so gradual that if I wasn't looking for it, I wouldn't notice it.

I walked into Walmart and was surrounded by Halloween, Thanksgiving, AND Christmas decorations. I backed away slowly.
