Goosebumps books

Robbie has just watched the Goosebumps film with Jack Black and loved it, when I told him that it was based on books he expressed an interest on reading them, a big deal for him as he isn't a reader by choice. (He's 11).

I can see on Amazon that there are lots of them and have found lists of what order they were written in but was wondering if it matters what order they are read in, or if anyone can recommend the best series?

It doesn't matter what order the books are read in, as they all contain different characters and stories. That said, there are a few sequel types (like Night of the Living Dummy II). They should probably be read in order, although I can't remember for sure whether the characters are the same.

As for the different series, I can't really answer that because I only read the original series. Perhaps he could start with those if they're easily available?

I hope Robbie enjoys them! My friend's son read them around the same age and he loved them. :) I still have all of my Goosebumps books (about 30 or so, I think) all of these years later. They're awesome. :D

I've read some Goosebumps books and I agree with Kylie, it doesn't matter too much the order in which they're read except maybe those sequel type ones. I would also go with the older ones, but that's only because I've read more older ones and I've liked those. Favourites are for example Stay Out of the Basement and Monster Blood (though I don't own the former; and I've only read the original Monster Blood currently). The Haunted Mask is good too (but again I've only read the first one). I haven't read It Came from Beneath the Sink! but I've seen the TV episode of this book and I've always liked that one a lot.

I really liked the Goosebumps books when I was a child, and I enjoy them as an adult too (though that's probably part nostalgia). I don't have as many as Kylie, I have about 15 of them (all but one are Dutch translations). I used to loan some from the library when I was a child, and I read my sister's Goosebumps books too. I used to watch the Goosebumps TV series when it was on TV, I quite liked that show as a child / young teenager. Not all the books were translated into Dutch.

I hope Robbie enjoys whichever book he tries! I hope to see the Goosebumps movie some day, I'm glad to hear he liked it and that it inspired him to want to try a book.

Thank you ladies, I'll see what I can get hold of, some of the older ones seem to be silly prices and I would rather buy new copies.

We all enjoyed the movie and even commented that it was rather scary (in a good way) for a PG, , my 17 year old was rather freaked out by a freaky clown! :D
